Day 7: Spring is really here!

First thing i have to say about this picture is that it was taken with my IPhone as my camera has been locked in my friends room so i had to do the best with what i had :P Really was nice to have sun today otherwise i would not be able to take any pictures at all. This is a rare site in Salford found just beside the road a really beautiful and quite large collection of Crocus flowers. The warm weather made them all bloom really nicely and have left everyone very tired as the climate changes. During this period of time you have to be careful as there is normally lots of colds, bugs and flu's around as they wake up from their winters nap! I hope if it hasn't yet spring will be on its way for you so that you can enjoy its beauty :P
Now some random facts!
Crocus: is a genus of perennial flowering plants, native to a large area from coastal and sub alpine areas of central and southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, across Central Asia to western China. The genus Crocus is placed botanically in the iris family (Iridaceae). The plants grow from corms and are mainly hardy perennials, and are found in a wide range of habitats, including woodland, scrub and meadows. There are about eighty species of crocus. Their cup-shaped, solitary, salver form flowers taper off into a narrow tube. Their colour varies enormously, although lilac, mauve, yellow and white are predominant. The spice saffron is obtained from the stigmas of Crocus sativus, an autumn/fall-blooming species.

  2. It would be nice to see what your sources are for all the information, as I could imagine that you are not a botanist with publicised data.
