Hello again audience, now today's blog is quite strange as I am actually on a field trip where there will be little or no internet! So..I have had to make the blog in advance! But hopefully I will be able to get some really nice pictures as i have seen some of the area in other peoples pictures and I hopefully will be able to get some good ones for myself so that I can show you all *Packs camera in bag* almost forgot that *charges batteries* and those! :S
Today's pictures are of two beautiful statues located above the door to one of the most beautiful pubs I have seen. They are both holding the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom and both look very angry! :P When I was little I was obsessed with coats of arms and tried to do a lot of research into finding out my family's/ancestors as I have quite a unique last name. I never ended up with a coat of arms but my Nan ended up getting scammed £50 when she tried to find it using a researcher that was clearly not legit.
Anyway today's question is What is your family's history? Do you know it or want to know it? do they have any interesting stories? did they fight in any major battles? Just anything would be interesting :P Thanks for reading today's blog!
Now some random facts!
The Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom is the official coat of arms of the British monarch, currently Queen Elizabeth II. These arms are used by the Queen in her official capacity as monarch of the United Kingdom, and are officially known as her Arms of Dominion. Variants of the Royal Arms are used by other members of the Royal Family; and by the British Government in connection with the administration and government of the country. In Scotland, the Queen has a separate version of the Royal Arms, a variant of which is used by the Scotland Office.
The shield is quartered, depicting in the first and fourth quarters the three passant guardant lions of England; in the second, the rampant lion and double tressure fleury-counter-fleury of Scotland; and in the third, a harp for Northern Ireland.
The crest is a statant guardant lion wearing the imperial crown, himself on another representation of that crown.
The dexter supporter is a likewise crowned English lion; the sinister, a Scottish unicorn. According to legend a free unicorn was considered a very dangerous beast; therefore the heraldic unicorn is chained, as were both supporting unicorns in the Royal coat of arms of Scotland.
The coat features both the motto of English monarchs, Dieu et mon droit (God and my right), and the motto of the Order of the Garter, Honi soit qui mal y pense (Shamed be he who thinks ill of it) on a representation of the Garter behind the shield.
Poor nan! Lol. That was so funny but sad that she got ripped off! Shame on people like that. I would love to learn more about my familys history line! I have never met my real father (i have talked with him for a hot minute a few times as he is an abusive alcoholic) so i would like to know more about his side, and i would love to have a coat of arms! They are truely awesome! The staues ate very cool! But i feel bad for the poor unicorns. :( there is something royal about coats of arms! :)
